Jess Anderson is a Holistic Health and Wellness coach from Learn to Nourish and her mission and purpose in life is to help inspire people to mold their mindset into a life of true wellbeing. She educates her clients on how to better understand their relationship with their food, body and self.
We have been friends for some time now and we are going to team up to bring you guys a night of movement and nutrition. I asked Jess to share a little more about her story and about her mission to help women improve their relationship with food.
WE ALL SEARCH FOR THIS THING CALLED THE ‘PERFECT BODY‘, WE LOOK IN THE MIRROR AND OUR INNER CRITIC GOES CRAZY…. I’M FAT, MY THIGHS ARE TOO BIG, I NEED A FLATTER TUMMY, I SHOULDN’T HAVE EATEN THAT CAKE BLAH BLAH BLAH WE ALL KNOW HOW THE STORY GOES.
I went on this same journey and put myself through extreme dieting and training for 4 years all for this ‘perfect body’….Because, well then it would make everything in my life better, right?
WRONG!!!
It didn’t change a thing; I still kept thinking I wasn’t good enough! My inner critic still found every little thing I needed to change or I wasn’t happy with, if I reached my goal on the scales it felt good for a minute but then I changed the number and needed to get lower next week. I looked at other fitness competitors and body builders, and compared myself to them! Don’t get me wrong it did feel good to be so lean but I couldn’t do anything but train, cook, eat and sleep because I had no energy to do anything else, my friends didn’t want to hang out with me because I was grumpy all the time and ‘not fun anymore’. Is that really living?
As soon as I did my fitness/body building comp I would binge eat big time and put all the weight back on within weeks (15-20Kg’s) because I had restricted and deprived myself SO MUCH. I would feel so bad about myself and use the food to beat myself up. My mindset with food was warped; everything was labeled good or bad. Then I would just do another body building competition to lose the weight again.
This cycle went on for years…. But nothing ever changed because I was focusing on changing the outer image to make everything better, when I needed to look inside and change my inner world.
True change and transformation starts from within – Jess
When I started to focus on the above statement my world started to change, from this change and my new eyes, Learn To Nourish was born.
Learn To Nourish is all about teaching you how to love and fuel your body with yummy and healthy foods that taste good. I’m about teaching people how NOT to diet, restrict and deprive yourself of foods you love and crave, but rather teaching and educating you on how to swap ingredients to still be able to have these foods you may label as “bad”.
I work with women on their mindset around food, going deeper into your relationship with food, your eating habits, and beliefs around your body, nutrition and self.
Love & accept yourself – you already have the perfect body and life, for you are so much more than the physical.
